The Lebanese Red Cross Distributions on the Occasion of Christmas

توزيعات الصليب الأحمر اللبناني بمناسبة عيد الميلاد

* On the occasion of glorious Christmas, the Lebanese Red Cross, following its traditional custom of every year, held distribution ceremonies in the capital through its three dispensaries in Gemmayzeh, Achrafieh, and Musaytbeh.

The distribution ceremonies in Beirut were attended by the honorary president, Mrs. Laure Khoury, wife of His Excellency the President of the Republic, by the Marquise de Freige, the acting president, and by all the ladies of the central committee, who with their own hands distributed 1,800 articles of children's clothing to 725 families of the deserving poor...

They likewise distributed large quantities of foodstuffs — bread, lentils, sugar, and sweets — to the same public...

Nor was the distribution confined to the capital's three centers; it extended to all the society's branches in the Lebanese provinces, and a distribution ceremony was held in each of the following districts: Jounieh, Damour, Furn al-Chebbak, Beiteddine, Ain Zhalta, Tripoli, Halba, Qoubaiyat, Zahle, Baalbek, Rayak, Qabb Elias, Sidon, Tyre... The total distributed in these districts came to 9,000 articles of clothing, given out to nearly 3,000 families, along with 62 barrels of powdered milk, each barrel weighing 110 kilos...

The sight of the poor receiving these gifts from the president and members of the Lebanese Red Cross was one to bring tears of gladness to the eye — an acknowledgment that humanity is still alive in the hearts of our ladies, working with energy and love for the happiness of the poor, for the safeguarding of their welfare, and for the raising of their standard of living in general.
