An Art and Literature Contest — What Do You Read in the Child's Face?

The Woman's Voice

مسابقة فنية أدبية - ماذا تقرأين في وجه الطفل؟ · صوت المرأة

What scene is there more wonderful than the scenes of innocent childhood — scenes you keep for your children, a sweet memory, until they grow up.

Is it violent, hot anger, or merriment crying out from the depths?

Is it bewilderment at this bewildering existence? Or is it the early stirring of an instinctive femininity?

Help us, Madam, to discover the seats of art and beauty in your child.

Dear reader,

Here are samples of sweet childhoods, in charming poses, accompanied by comments inspired by these scenes.

The magazine "The Woman's Voice" extends a general invitation to all its readers to take part in an artistic and literary contest meeting the following conditions:

1 — Send a photograph of a child (boy or girl) between one and ten years of age, in a charming pose.

2 — The photograph is to be accompanied by the full name and address, together with a comment on the picture, along the lines of the notes printed on pages 34 and 35, provided the comment does not run beyond a few lines.

3 — The photographs, with their comments, will be published in successive issues of "The Woman's Voice."

4 — A judging committee will be entrusted with awarding two prizes, a first and a second, to the two photographs that win in pose and in comment.

5 — Entries are to be sent to the management of the magazine "The Woman's Voice," P.O. Box 1284 — Beirut.

So hasten, Madam, this very moment, to take part in this contest.

"The Editors"

2 — Only with the greatest difficulty can any one of us laugh from the heart... But look at this child, and at the supreme ease with which he brings joy into people's hearts: is it a flash of lightning? Is it a sudden sound.. or is it the merry hour of the bath?!!

3 — "Take him away from me!"... "Get it out of here!"... That is what this little one's face is saying; but what is this thing that has upset him?!... Most often it is a scrap of fur that would hardly hurt an ant strolling on the ground!...

4 — Most of the time, when events cross us, we carry them in our hearts and keep silent, grudgingly; but the child sends them forth in a ringing cry from the depths of his throat... What is a train whistle beside it!!
