Another Women's Festival in Sidon

On the occasion of the Lebanese woman's attainment of her full political rights, a great festival was held in Sidon as well, attended by a large gathering of ladies and young ladies. The celebration was honored by Mrs. Emily Fares Ibrahim, Mrs. Ibtihaj Kaddoura, and Mrs. Najla Saab, delegates of the Executive Committee of the Women's Organizations. It was a splendid celebration, at which Mrs. Nazik Jawhari Shamma, president of the Ladies' Renaissance Society, Miss Layla Huways, and Mrs. Wathiqa Yamani spoke. Then Miss Samira al-Solh, secretary of the Ladies' Renaissance Society, delivered a comprehensive address on the women's movement and the developments that have accompanied it, which stirred the admiration of all the women present. She concluded it with a salute to His Excellency the President of the Republic and his wife, and to the government of the new era in which woman has gained her full rights. Among what she said: "When election time comes, we shall not let the men blame us for any slip, however small. We must erase the prevailing opinion that women will vote for the candidate chosen by the man of the house. Rather, we must vote on a basis of principle, of reform, of party, of construction, of purification; and ladies should come forward as candidates on this basis as well. We must also join the parties that accord with our national and political convictions."

The crowning conclusion was a gracious word from Miss Ibtihaj Kaddoura.

The celebration was a success, and we do hope that woman will conduct herself well under the new responsibilities laid upon her shoulders, and share with man, for gain and for loss, in the arena of this life.
