Talk of the Heart — Mystery

Aphrodite

حديث القلب - غموض · افروديت

In the deep, pitch-black night... I take refuge in you — in your distant memories; the heavy darkness wraps me round, and desolation closes in upon me!
And I remember how you used to scatter my anxiety and my alarm:
with a light touch of your hand, with a smile from your radiant mouth, and with a playful, teasing jest. — God! How my forebodings and my fears would then dwindle and depart... every one of them:
And the abundant stars of happiness would return to my eyes,
and to my heart its companionship and its dancing.
And I thank my Lord... who planted you in my heart so, until your roots stretched out and intertwined in my veins, and their sap mingled with my blood...
★
And now... it seems to me, from time to time, that a new stranger looks in upon this heart, to occupy your deserted place... but before long he turns back, disappointed and abashed — for the place is either too small to hold him, or too large, so that he is lost in it and slips away...
... Will you not unveil this mystery for me, O absent beloved!?
