The Anniversary of the Death of Malak Hifni Nasif, "Bahithat al-Badiya"

ذكرى وفاة ملك حفني ناصف « باحثة البادية »

* The twelfth of last October marked the thirty-fifth anniversary of the death of Malak Hifni Nasif, known by the pen name "Bahithat al-Badiya."

Malak Hifni Nasif was a bold writer on social questions who had mastered, besides Arabic, both French and English. She followed in the footsteps of Qasim Amin in striking at the problems of home and society, and especially the delicate problems surrounding the conflict between man and woman and the call for the emancipation of woman.

She treated her subjects with understanding and moderation, urging the Muslim woman to seek learning and to come out of her isolation and stagnation.

Radio Lebanon, in its weekly "Woman's Talk," held a special program in memory of Bahithat al-Badiya, in which Mrs. Emily Fares Ibrahim spoke.
