You Peer Out, a Moon / On a Lily's Lip (from the Collection Dulab)

Michel Trad

تطلّي قمر / ع شفّة زنبقا (من ديوان دولاب) · ميشال طراد

From "Dulab" — a collection of verse by Michel Trad, soon to appear — the poet who showered roses upon us in the collection "Jalnar" and showed us how earth is bound to heaven...

★

You Peer Out, a Moon..

Oh, would that I were some melody —
a green one, in a nightingale's beak — and you were some string,
and you would play me, and I would turn into a cloud,
and, my sweet, from behind it you would peer out, a moon!

On a Lily's Lip

My friend, why the toil, why the misery?!
And suppose this earth were yours, never to pass away —
is anything happier than a butterfly on the hills,
a red one, dancing on the lip of a lily?
