A Lebanese Artist from Brazil

فنانة لبنانية من البرازيل

Miss Emily Abu-Haidar left Beirut by plane on Friday, February 19, returning to Brazil after spending four months on a visit to her homeland, Lebanon.

Miss Abu-Haidar is a distinguished artist belonging to the schools of modern art. Although she has not yet finished her studies at the 'Art Museum' in São Paulo, where she is specializing in the art of advertising, she recently drew all eyes to herself by winning the third prize in the artistic competition held by the Brazilian government on the occasion of the passing of four centuries since the founding of the city of São Paulo.

The rising artist is a flame of intelligence and art, and is distinguished by refined elegance and a sound eye. She won a prize of honor in painting, and her paintings are of the 'abstract art' kind.

As for the prize the government awarded her, worth 3,000 lira, it helped to realize a great dream that had long haunted her head — the visit to her homeland Lebanon, which she left as a child in 1939. In Beirut the artist stayed as the guest of her kinsman Mr. Shukri Saba, public prosecutor of the Court of Appeal.

It is worth mentioning that the Lebanese government, acting on a recommendation from its minister plenipotentiary in Rio de Janeiro, Mr. Adib al-Nahhas, has entrusted to Miss Emily Abu-Haidar the task of supervising the arrangement of the special Lebanese pavilion at the international exhibition of commercial, industrial, agricultural, and cultural affairs which will open next June in São Paulo. In preparation for taking up this important responsibility, the artist made several contacts with the competent government authorities to supply herself with the necessary information.

The Woman's Voice wishes the gracious guest a blessed journey and success in her artistic mission — a mission of the kind that 'whitens the face' of Lebanon in the world.
