Mrs. Latifa Rahim Karam

• On February 28 last there passed from among us a noble womanly face — a heroine in the world of motherhood, faithful in the fulfillment of a complete mission for the homeland — Mrs. Latifa Rahim Karam. Stubborn illness overcame her, after care, tenderness, and solicitude had proved powerless to save her...

And what a company of sons and daughters the generous departed left behind! Five sons: Fouad, Atef, Antoine, Robert, and André, and two daughters: Samia and Jamal — and the latter is none other than the dear friend of The Woman's Voice, Dr. Jamal Karam Harfoush, who is rightly counted among the glories of womanhood, in Lebanon and beyond.

Each of her young brothers holds his own distinguished place in the world of medicine, education, poetry, and letters — all of which moves us to redouble our prayers of mercy for that virtuous mother, who carried before her children the torch of knowledge, courage, and tenderness, and guided their steps toward whatever made for their good and their advancement.

A matchless "mother" like Mrs. Latifa Karam, who has left her country these beneficial works — how could death prevail over her? Let it suffice death, in our eyes, that it has relieved her body of its pains.. As for her.. she will remain, for all time, among us, in an excellent and worthy line of descendants.
