Talk of the Heart — The Secret of Life

Aphrodite

حديث القلب - سر الحياة · افروديت

With the dawn, its triumphant star was greeted..
and from their nests the goldfinches burst forth,
exulting and clamoring in the processions of light:
it rises at its leisure... hesitant, dancing,
its feet sunk deep in the darkness,
its tousled hair spread out where the light lies..

And the earth... drunk with joy,
bade farewell, with its night, to winter's cold and its desolation,
and its hands reached out in haste to meet the spring,
coming wrapped in the coverlets of love...
tenderness folded in its embrace,
its heart heavy-laden with good things,
which it scatters over the face of the earth — freshness
and fragrance.

Is not the spring, in the earth's inmost heart,
her abiding beloved?
He comes unannounced,
colors her days and bedews her nights...
then turns away without apology,
and her veins are left to long, luminous weeping!
Until, when his tender youth comes back to her anew,

she forgets, in the tyranny of longing, her sorrow..
and her grass —
and she rises up rejoicing, making ready for the wedding!!
Who, would you say, has touched the secret of life?
