Fadwa Tuqan, Guest of Lebanon!!

فدوى طوقان ضيفة لبنان!!

In Lebanon Fadwa Tuqan has a vast army of admirers!
No sooner was the news of her visit broadcast and passed along by press and tongue than some sought to meet her and others to hold a poetry evening at which they might listen to the soft ring of her voice!... Would you believe that all Lebanon longs for this young Arab poetess who has sung her heart and wrung her heart, until people were visited by the doubt that this heart, brimming with feeling, might have been touched by drought!
In my mind's eye, Fadwa Tuqan, author of "Alone with the Days," had a desolate, gaunt image... And since our poetess was in Beirut, I said, I simply must see her and speak with her!
And how great the surprise was, and how delightful!!
The clear, comely face looked out at me, with two eyes... drowned in a tender laugh... and a feeling shook me like the gladness of dawn on a spring day, and from that hour that radiant face found its way to the very core of my heart..
And in my mind's eye Fadwa Tuqan, author of "My Brother Ibrahim," was the Khansa of the age, burning the freshness of her youth in anguish over a brother who was a great poet in our world... Yet I met her today, and there glimmered in my surmise, through her past, the glad tidings of an infant hope, and breezes moistened by the first of the rain!!
Might there be, in the life of this idealistic, sensitive poetess, some point of turning toward green banks??
Fadwa Tuqan's return to Nablus was as swift as her coming — and in our ears still are whispers of promises from her to The Woman's Voice, whose fulfillment we await before the poetess returns to us again in early July... Until the next issue, then!!
