• With a warm welcome Lebanon received last month Lady Summerskill, vice-chairman of the British Labour Party, famous for her defense of the Arabs, and especially of the Palestine question.
She visited the refugee camps on Saturday, January 21, at the invitation of Mrs. Wadi'a Khartabil, president of the Palestinian Women's Union, and showed the deepest emotion at the present state of affairs. She likewise accepted Mrs. Khartabil's invitation to a tea party held at the Union's office, at which the president delivered a speech of welcome to the distinguished guest, telling her frankly of the Arabs' displeasure at the partiality of the English toward the Jews, and that the Arabs will not retreat from this position unless the English correct their distorted view of the Palestine question...
The charming thing is that the bold Member of Parliament, Lady Summerskill, made no attempt to conceal her feelings, and promised to spare no effort to raise the Palestine question in its true light, above all in Labour Party circles. And as a reminder of this promise, she was asked to become an honorary member of the Union, and Mrs. Khartabil pinned upon her breast the pin engraved with the words "We Shall Return."
• The following has come to us from the Young Women's Christian Association:
The Association is still providing food parcels to 300 of the disaster victims of Tripoli, with the help of the Ministry of Social Affairs, which has furnished two kitchens for this purpose. The members of the Association are also teaching the housewives of those families sewing and wool-work, while those whose houses were not destroyed are being trained to paint their houses and restore them to their former state.
The Association therefore asks all its members to send whatever they can — wool and crochet hooks for handwork, pieces of cloth fit for sewing, paint brushes, plates and spoons — to aid those stricken families, to the Association's club in Ain al-Mreisseh, Fakhri Bey Street, Beirut.
