For the Sake of Your Beauty

في سبيل جمالك

1 — A woman's beauty remains, through all time, her first concern. The woman who pays no heed to her beauty is not a woman in the true sense. Know then, my sister, that it is your duty as a lady to attend to this side of things and give it serious attention.

★

2 — Every age has its own stamp of beauty, and the stamp of this age is simplicity, and lightening the coloring of the face as much as possible — provided the make-up is carried out with much art and taste, taking care to choose the colors suited to each complexion.

★

3 — And know, my sister, that a clear, soft skin is the foundation of your beauty. If you complain of dry skin, hasten to wash your face every night with lukewarm water and soap, then rub it with cold cream, using your fingertips, until it seeps into the pores; then wipe off the surplus with clean tissue paper.

★

4 — As for the eyes, they are always the center of the face's beauty — and there is a modern tendency to bring out the marks of charm in them with a little kohl, with which the edges of the lower lid are lined, on condition that it be applied with art; for this it is well to consult the specialists in the beauty houses.

★

5 — The latest tendency for the beauty of the eyebrows is to leave them to nature and to avoid excess in thinning them, as used to be done in the past. And if the tweezers must be used, let it be only to tidy the edges — provided the natural line is preserved and left as it is.

★

6 — The tinting of the lips likewise follows the first principle, inspired by natural simplicity — so it is well, my sister, to avoid heavy coloring, as you used to do last year.

★

7 — And know, finally, that your hair is the crown of your beauty. If it is dry and frizzy, it is better to change the soap or shampoo you use; and accustom yourself to treating it with a stiff brush, for that gives it softness and luster — and without this your beauty is not complete.
