Beirut College for Women Presents a Night of Theater, Dance, and Folk Song

كلية بيروت للبنات تقدم ليلة تمثيل ورقص وغناء شعبي

Chamoun, in which all the units of the association pass in review in splendid, orderly fashion...

We wish the women and men in charge of these noble humanitarian projects every success and blessing.

Everyone who spent one of the two evenings of April 16 and 17 last at Beirut College for Women came away light of step and cheered in spirit, for the proceedings of the evening were like a tonic for all those weighed down by work and worries — as most people of this age are.

In truth, this year's performance was rich and satisfying, whether in "color" or in direction and acting, for it gave proof that within the College are the first signs of a popular artistic renaissance nourished by genuine talents. Miss Rose Ghurayyib is the one who has best lived and felt the life of the village, and she excelled in depicting our scenes and in writing the light dialogue, free of artifice and affectation... and hence the village scenes were the height of charm and polish.

Credit for the mastery of the folk dancing, and above all the varieties of the Lebanese dabke, goes to the institute's dance teacher, the artist Mrs. Jarrar; and for the direction, to Miss Marie Sabri, who opened the performance with a gracious word of welcome, and did not forget to remind those present that "Spring" would be devoted, as usual, to the village revival project and to the fight against illiteracy...

May God bless the hands that labor for good and for raising the level of society.
