Near Dimensions — Taking Flight...

Layla Abu Dahir

أبعاد قريبة - انطلاق ... · ليلى ابوضاهر

Will you not sing for joy today, O my heart? Is there anything more blissful than your shore, anything safer than your shelter??...

Whenever I peopled that place, to set my mind at rest over your emptiness, you would burst out, demanding your right to death and to life.

And yesterday I gave you free rein, and you shattered a captivity that long compliance had never weakened.

And you came back to me after a long absence, with spring filling your wings. I rejoiced at your choosing, though you wore me out with your dancing and your glee.

Are you not a liar today: for who melts with longing without a smile of contentment!!?...

Your greed will kill you: is it not enough for you that you exist for him — why be wretched because he has not found you? And how do you know that he, too, is not searching for you!!?...

I do not excuse you your misery, O heart, for love is the smile of time and the joy of a lifetime; tomorrow there is a meeting, and tomorrow a world all radiance...
