Putting Knowledge to Use

Al-Muhallab ibn Abi Sufra was asked: "By what means did you attain what you attained?" He said: "I attained it by knowledge alone." They said to him: "But we see others who have learned more than you learned, yet they have not reached your height." Al-Muhallab: "That is because I put my knowledge to use and did not merely carry it, while the others carried their knowledge and did not use it."
