Nada Rushdi Ma'alouf

ندى رشدي معلوف

With the crescent of last October — on the fifth of the month — a drop of "dew" looked out upon existence in the house of our colleague the poet Rushdi Ma'alouf. Dr. Rizk received her into the world at his hospital: a bundle of flesh, throbbing with health and beauty, and weighing three kilos! And straightway she set about searching with her two tiny lips for a breast to cling to, that she might quench her thirst, and sleep, and grow!

Around the sweet baby "Nada" gathered her brothers and sisters — Hind, Amin, and Layla — with dancing eyes, dimpled smiles, and a thousand and one questions... Amin was the proudest of them all and the happiest with her. Did not everyone insist that she resembles him? And resembles her father? And who knows — she may yet turn out a poetess of fine feeling too!

A hearty welcome to the little one Nada, and our congratulations and good wishes to our two friends Odette and Rushdi...
