The Book "The Big Fisherman"

There has recently appeared in Beirut, from al-Mash'al Bookshop, an Arabic translation of "The Big Fisherman" by the American writer the Reverend Lloyd Douglas, author of the famous novel "The Robe."

The translation of both novels was carried out by one of our energetic pioneers, Mrs. Tamam Dawud, who has devoted to this arduous task years of her life — a long one, God willing.

And this lady of ours, despite her advanced age, has never once slackened in her zeal for writing and translating; in everything she writes or translates she aims at the highest moral guidance, inspired by the heavenly teachings.. She has several works, among them "Spirit over Matter" and "Love Triumphant," and others.. She also has books still in manuscript, all of them aiming at exaltation through the things of the spirit in an age in which materialism runs riot... Thus does Mrs. Dawud carry on her call to hold fast to lofty moral ideals, which gives her writings a manifest educational value.

It is worth mentioning that at the beginning of this year the Lebanese government awarded Mrs. Tamam Dawud the gilded Order of Merit, in recognition of her merit and her services in the fields of translation and authorship. "The Woman's Voice" took due note of this at the time.

May God prolong the life of our venerable lady, that she may remain a treasure for the Arabic library.
