In Memory of Elia Abu Madi

ذكرى ايليا ابي ماضي

The meeting called by the trio Naimy–Saydah–Jamal at the home of Mr. Georges Saydah issued in the formation of a committee under the presidency of Mr. Mikhail Naimy, with as members Messrs. Georges Saydah (treasurer), Youssef al-Khal, Bahij Uthman, Ahmad Abu Saad, Philip Kansaflis, Michel Asmar, Hasan Marwa, Michel Akl, Albert Rihani, Dr. Kamal al-Hajj, and Mrs. Edvick Shayboub.

This committee met on the evening of December 14 and decided that the memorial celebration for the departed poet Elia Abu Madi should be held on January 23, 1958, in the great assembly hall at the American University of Beirut. The celebration will be under the patronage of literature, and among those whose participation as speakers has been decided are the Iraqi poetess Nazik al-Mala'ika, Mr. Mikhail Naimy, and Dr. Sami al-Dahhan of Syria...

We have learned also that a committee has been formed in Bikfaya and al-Muhaydithah — the village of the departed — under the presidency of Mr. Michel Touma, to collect donations, to bring the remains of the departed from New York to his village, and to erect a statue of him.
