We have received a charming letter from Miss Widad Karaki – Furn al-Shubbak – Beirut, in which she offers some sound suggestions for improving the magazine's editorial condition and raising its standard, in response to the appeal we addressed to our readers in the last issue.

While thanking the gracious Miss for her zeal and her spirit, we reply to her letter as follows:

We are fully aware of the points you have indicated; as for our slowness in carrying them out completely, that is due to purely material causes. There is no doubt that the original, serious story about our social problems is among the materials necessary to the magazine, but we are seldom fortunate in finding strong pens to feed this section — and would that our readers helped us to fill this gap.

The section "Look for the Woman" has been worn threadbare by time, and it is our policy to avoid hackneyed subjects that have been treated too often — even so, we do not hesitate to publish whatever we find fresh and novel, and we welcome all the material that reaches us, provided it comes up to standard.

The corner devoted to readers' letters and to answering them is important too, and here we are beginning it today with your letter, in the hope that readers will favor us with theirs... If they wish their names withheld, let them indicate as much, and we shall comply with their wish.

As for the section "Woman's Problems," I noted in my introduction to the first installment that I select these problems from "The Woman's Corner" on Radio Lebanon, and only until the problems of our own readers, women and men, begin to reach us. We fully hope that these letters will go beyond problems of beauty to those of upbringing and of the mind — and on this we are both agreed.
