The Noble Birthday of the Prophet
المولد الشريف
The American University of Beirut held a ceremony on the occasion of the feast of the noble Birthday of the Prophet. After the recitation of verses of the Wise Remembrance, the master of ceremonies, Mr. Sami Alami, spoke; then Miss Sumayya Hamwi, on the subject "From Khadija's House to the Cave of Hira" (the gracious reader will find her address on page 15), and she was most successful. Then Dr. Nabih Faris spoke on the subject of two scenes from the Prophet's life: he presented the scene of the building of the Kaaba and the dispute of the notables, then the arbitration of the Prophet (peace be upon him); and then the scene of the founding of Arab unity, describing the disagreement of the Arab lands over the leadership, and he wished for a Muhammad, or the spirit of Muhammad, to unite them anew. Then Mr. Abdullah Mashnouq spoke on the difference between Arabism and Islam, distinguishing between them with his customary tact and concluding that not every Arab is a Muslim, nor every Muslim an Arab. President Dodge closed the ceremony with wise words.
