The Khadija al-Kubra School

مدرسة خديجة الكبرى

The Islamic Makassed Charitable Association in Beirut is carrying out its mission in the best possible way. It makes no distinction in caring for the education of the girl just as it cares for the boy, holding that each of the two sexes has the right to assistance in reaching what it aspires to of high culture and lofty character, with which to serve its beloved homeland and its dear nation.

The Khadija al-Kubra School is one of the free schools which the esteemed Association opened in 1935, to assist those girls who press forward to the springs of learning, to drink from them what they can and what the doers of good and the servants of the homeland have made ready for them.

The school began with a small number of girls, which has multiplied with the years and this year has come to exceed 450 students. A class beyond the elementary certificate has been added; and the girls' love of learning, together with the readiness of those in charge of this institution to expend every effort that brings good and happiness to the daughters of our nation — these things open the way for the addition of higher classes.

The correspondent of "The Woman's Voice" had the pleasure of visiting this school and attending its latest athletic festival, and she felt the zeal and energy of those in charge of it. It was a splendid festival, from which every lady came away agreeing with her companion that it was the successful pageant of the season. The ladies who are the school's guests have grown accustomed to seeing its festivals always succeed. And so in this activity the well-known saying was fulfilled: "A sound mind in a sound body."

And here we present to you, dear reader, some of the scenes, that you may form a clear idea of one part of this noble enterprise, and be moved to take your share in raising the standing of your sister, who stands in need of your counsel and your help.
