Air Conditioning at Cinema Dunia

تكييف الهواء في سينما دنيا

The journalists accepted the invitation of the management of Cinema Dunia in Beirut — first, to see the splendid motion picture “The Sword and the Cloak,” acted by Gary Cooper and Lilli Palmer; and second, to inaugurate the first modern air-conditioning apparatus in Beirut.

With this apparatus, the hall of Cinema Dunia has become the second cinema hall in the Near East, after the “Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer” in Cairo — to say nothing of the great merits this hall possesses, such as cleanliness, splendor, comfort, and construction on the most modern principles the world has attained.

There is no doubt that such a cinema hall in Beirut fills a gap of which cinema-goers — citizens, tourists, and summer visitors — have long complained. From this standpoint, then, it is a service to summering in Lebanon; may those responsible take notice of it and value it at its true worth. For it has reached us that these responsible officials have not given this enterprise the encouragement expected of them.

The costs of this enterprise came to about one hundred and eighty thousand Lebanese liras. It was expected to be completed at the beginning of June; but the authorities' turning away from helping the owners of the enterprise — by easing for them the purchase of the necessary machines and equipment and their shipment from abroad — worked to delay its completion until the present time.

We congratulate the management of Cinema Dunia on this great enterprise of theirs, and we wish it the success and the patronage which it deserves.
