Nothing Like a Beautiful Woman

لا شيء كامرأة جميلة

... In a room ablaze with dazzling electric lights stood a blonde, drawing up her tall, slender figure, in a white dress extravagantly full! Around her neck, above her bare shoulders, was wound a necklace of clear, sparkling jewels... And a man's voice directing her... "Close your lips slowly, move gently... yes, like that... like that... bravo! Truly magnificent!"

The last phrase was accompanied by the sound of the camera taking the picture.

The owner of the voice was none other than the famous "Vogue" photographer Irving Penn. And the blonde was none other than his well-known "model" Lisa, queen of hearts in the world of women, the international model who draws the largest salary and whom the public of women regards with much admiration... for her figure is among the finest figures in the world...

Lisa and the photographer "Penn" were absorbed in finding a way by which every woman would be convinced that she could look as beautiful as Lisa...

And Lisa is beautiful in truth; but when she stands before the lens she seems far, far away and unreal, reaching in her beauty the point of perfection, beyond man's power to produce its like.

The "model" girl alone has the power to sell, through the advertisements in which she appears, the largest quantity of her merchandise, whether that merchandise be soap, or aspirin, or a remedy for the teeth...

The United States realized the importance of advertisements for the circulation of its goods in the world, and set aside for them, in this year's budget, 830 million dollars! — for magazines and newspapers alone. And no less than a third of this sum goes in salaries to the models, once it was proved to the owners of goods that nothing in the world draws the public's eye like the face of a beautiful woman!

To meet the needs of the owners of goods, great advertising agencies were founded, most of them at the head of the streets of Manhattan, where the roadways teem with lovely young girls swaying along in the latest fashions of every kind. The number of these international models in New York comes to about a thousand, among them 25 men, 25 boys, and a number of dogs!!

Every day, thousands of lovely girls knock at the doors of these agencies, led there by their ambition, or by the special school that graduates them after six simple lessons.

The life of these models is neither easy nor soft, nor do their wages, for the most part, assure them a comfortable living, for their wages range between 5 and 15 dollars an hour. Lisa alone is paid forty dollars for a single hour.

What is it that makes a certain face, or a certain figure, worth forty dollars an hour?

The answer lies in the way Lisa works, and in the skill that makes her appear in every costume in a manner that harmonizes with that costume... In a sports dress she is like a schoolgirl; in an alluring evening gown she is exactly as a woman wishes to look at an evening party... Every costume has its pose and its movements, and this is an art Lisa has mastered by instinct and by practice.

Lisa is now at the summit of the models, and she has kept this position for 14 years thanks to her genius. She lives today the life of the ideal woman, and her motto in life is:

"Every human being can find happiness, and every woman can be beautiful."

And every one of her pictures assures the man that woman is nothing less than a goddess... and assures the woman that she can manage the affairs of the house, accompany the children to school, cook a great meal, and then put on the finest evening clothes and look elegant, beautiful, and clever.
