Queens of the Summer Resorts

ملكات المصايف

The Parrot Casino, "Le Perroquet," in Broummana held a contest among the beauties, and the subject of this picture, Miss Rosette Dahhan, carried off the first prize.

One thing worth recording about this contest is that the "traditional committee" surrendered its powers to all those present, each of whom placed the name of the queen of his choice in the ballot box. The balloting was free and unfettered, without any coercion, or bribery, or fraud, or governmental or feudal pressure... And thus was this beautiful queen elected... and for once in our lives we put out the Devil's eye!

Miss Rosette Dahhan is of Lebanese parents and Egyptian birth, visiting Lebanon for the first time. She has been captivated by the beauty of its nature, which, in her words, "inspires much in the souls of poets," and captivated likewise by the graciousness of the people of Lebanon.

O Miss of the enchanting eyes — who could look upon this face and remain rough and hard of heart?
