Ask Whatever You Wish

Q — My hair, which used to be thick, has begun to thin, so that I fear baldness. Do you think that massaging the scalp helps?
A — Yes, I believe massage helps, for it is the only way to regulate the circulation of the blood and carry fresh blood to the roots of the hair. So do not fear baldness; it is rare, especially if you follow this advice.
Q — The "foundation" I use under my powder hardens the skin of my face. Would you advise me to use a preparation that suits my pale coloring?
A — I understand from what you have said that you are complaining of dry skin, and that is natural in this season. Use a cream that softens the skin and helps the powder to hold; then remember to massage your face at night, an hour before sleep, with cold cream, for your skin is in need of nourishment.
Q — Is there a way to conceal a lock of white hair at the front of my hair, or should I pull it out?
A — The best thing you can do is to dye those hairs that annoy you with a special dye that can be removed if its color does not please you. All you do is wipe the dye over the hair and leave it to dry.
Q — My daughter refuses to take her glass of milk, and does not like butter; what can I give her instead with her bread?
A — Vegetable extract or tinned fat will serve, although it does not contain vitamin A, which we make up for by taking certain other foods, such as eggs, spleen, kidneys, and vegetables like tomatoes, and fruits; and she may like jams, juice, and mayonnaise.
Q — Can you show me how to make soap from leftover oil or fat?
A — There is no special method to be followed for making household soap from these household leavings, but we suggest that you follow the well-known ways, such as using lye — the "qatruna" — and mixing it with the oil; the experience of millions has proved them sound.
Q — I have heard that copper and copper salt are poisonous substances, yet we read that the human body needs copper in its foods. How do you explain that?
A — Copper and its salt are indeed poisonous, and the human body needs only very tiny quantities of it, on the order of thirty thousandths of an ounce a day. In this way its poisonous effect disappears, and it helps iron to maintain the body's activity and vitality!
