Talk of the Heart

I Love You

Inspired by a song...

I love you — a humble, devout gaze,
mirroring the shy edges of my longing.
You still the ferment of my passion,
and you tame the beast in me
...and behold, I am a lamb!

XXXX

I love you for a nobility inborn in your ways:
you embroider my virtues, and at my ugliness you shut your eyes and forgive,
and upon my music you bestow the worship of your silence,
so that sin takes fright...
and its intents are ashamed to stand naked.

XXXX

I love you because from you I have learned
how to raise, out of the rubble of my life,
a temple, not a tomb...
and how to fashion, out of the chatter of my days,
a song, not a blasphemy.

XXXX

I love you because you venture,
at every crossing and in every deep, and on every horizon,
in search of my happiness.
You do it without claiming a favor, without a glance or a touch...
You do it, my beloved, just so... by your own nature!
And is not this, after all, love?!
