Woman and Her Most Precious Possession!

المرأة وأثمن ما تملك !

Conrad III was emperor of Germany in the twelfth century. This emperor wished to seize the city of Weinsberg, so he marched against it with his men; and he could not conquer it and subdue its inhabitants until after he had besieged it severely. He was fond of revenge, and so he gave his soldiers leave to loot and plunder; but he took pity on the women and permitted them to leave the city unharmed, on condition that each one of them take with her the most precious thing she possessed.

And do not ask about the emperor's astonishment when he saw the women coming out of the city, each with a man on her back!!

The emperor asked them the reason for this act of theirs, and they answered with one voice:
— Did you not allow us to take the most precious thing we possess? And what do we possess more precious than our men, the partners of our lives?
