Strangers...
(inspired by poetry)

I traced the letters from my heart's own core,
then the tide came in with its foam
to blot out the dear one's name
and fold it away with eternity.

XXXX

She said: What folly is his —
he wants eternity for what must die!
I am the whole of me, and that is but a part;
it will perish just as I perish.

XXXX

Leave the world to the grave,
for you are eternity in my verse,
and on the tablet of the heavens
your radiant name shall be written;
and it is true: when what remains
of the universe and the dusk is pierced through,
and men and grass pass away,
love shall give our lifetime life again.
