The Wedding of the Season

عرس الموسم

The wedding of Bahija Riad al-Solh and Dr. Said al-As'ad was the loveliest of the season's weddings in Lebanon; it overflowed with beauty, elegance, and joy.

The halls of the Bristol Hotel were thronged on the wedding eve with the lady guests, who moved gracefully among dozens of baskets of lilies and roses to where the bride's two sisters — Miss Lamia, and Emira Mona, wife of Emir Talal Al Saud — stood receiving the well-wishers; in their splendid gowns and their fresh crowning they were like the most beautiful picture an artist's brush could paint.

The bride's procession arrived at half past seven, and in it the fair-haired girl of sixteen appeared like a houri from among the brides of dreams in enchantment and radiance. As for her splendid gown with its long brocaded train, it dazzled all eyes and was the object of the admiration of the hundreds of lady guests.

The bride and groom sat upon a raised dais on which the cameras were trained, and the lady guests raced one another to have a picture taken with the couple, to be the sweetest souvenir of this happy occasion.

At the side of the same hall a laden buffet had been prepared, holding every delicacy, with the magnificent white wedding cake at its center. And the venerable lady Faiza Riad al-Solh, the bride's mother, did the honors among the guests, beaming and welcoming, she and her daughters shedding an atmosphere of joy, intimacy, and serenity.

At half past nine at night the couple withdrew from the hotel on their honeymoon journey, which begins in Lebanon and ends in Paris.

The wedding of Bahija al-Solh was the wedding of the season; in it Lebanon shared the joys of a family that holds in all hearts the highest love, loyalty, and esteem. And the groom, Dr. Said al-As'ad, is among the finest of our young men and our men of letters, besides being one of the most brilliant of our rising physicians.

The congratulations of 'The Woman's Voice' to the families of the bride and groom, with our sincere wishes to her for a happy life robed in contentment, felicity, and plenty.
