Lebanon in the World Press

لبنان في الصحافة العالمية

The art of the reportage in the world press develops, day by day, toward invention and renewal. And Lebanon was, and still is, the focus of the world's attention, whether for its historical and intellectual value, or for its geographical position, the beauty of its nature, and its consequent excellence as an outstanding country for tourism and summering.

The government has not neglected this wide door of honest livelihood, and the statistics of the Commission of Tourism and Summering show us that the returns of this resource verge on the marvelous, while the means of publicity are mighty in bringing the facts home to the understanding of world public opinion. The Commission of Tourism and Summering never ceases to receive, every day, waves of journalists belonging to the finest news agencies and magazines in the world, granting them every facility and securing the conditions needed for them to become acquainted with the places of beauty and enchantment in Lebanon...

Among the most delightful of these attempts is the reportage that appeared recently in the magazine "Harper's," in twenty-two illustrated pages, following the visit paid to Lebanon by an artistic editorial team. The reportage is splendid and original, for it did not content itself with the familiar panoramic manner to which we are accustomed, but wove into it a marvelous display of fashions: it carries us from the temples of Baalbek to the ruins of Jbeil, to the life of the fishermen on the shore, and with every picture and item it blends a new and fitting costume, thus catching two birds with one stone! It is a new method of advertising — advertising fashions... yes... but a most successful one, for it is rich in art and taste and far removed from vulgarity. We have carried over to the readers of The Woman's Voice a few pages of this reportage:

A view of the Beiteddine Palace, and the palace of Emir Farid Hares Chehab, and here is the fashion model choosing for each scene the fitting dress. It is art and taste!!
