Beautiful Poetry: Forever...
O messenger of the beloved, when night comes down
and the kohl dissolves upon the hills,
and the valley clouds over, and in the far distances
the loosened outline of the groves heaves a sigh,
and the eyes fall asleep in Layla's house—
all but one eye that a handkerchief tends again and again—
tell Layla: I have seen him, and he endures,
a dreamer's gaze and a virgin heart.
That vow—the lovers may pass away
upon its face, and yet it shall not pass;
the skin of the veins has been sealed upon it,
for it is kneaded of the purest of our blood.
Tell him: his love within my veins
has flared from itself into a crown for our wedding.
Tell him: that impossible love
shall yet be transformed into an everlasting spring.
Tell Layla: I have seen him, and he is drunk with joy,
and in his eyes there is a beautiful dream.
