The Beirut College for Women Celebration — Wallada and Ibn Zaydun

حفلة كلية بيروت للبنات - ولادة وابن زيدون

★ On Saturday, May 3, Beirut College for Women held its annual dramatic celebration, presenting the play "Wallada and Ibn Zaydun," which proved, as is its custom, a marvel of acting and staging — the more so since the men's roles were entrusted to young men, and the joint participation of young men and young women in the acting was an encouraging precedent that helped make the evening a success.

The play's director, Miss Marie Sabri, an instructor at the institute, welcomed the audience and thanked them for their kind confidence and encouragement, announcing that the proceeds of the evening would be devoted to the project for reviving the villages and combating illiteracy.

The play was distinguished by careful attention to the quality of the dancing and singing: the dances were supervised by Miss Samia Saab, and the melodies of the songs were composed by the Rahbani Brothers... The play was given again a second night in response to the public's wish and in view of the great demand it met with.

★ Another performance that has won admiration of late is the play "Women and Secrets," presented by the Beirut center of the Orthodox Youth on the stage of the Dunya Cinema, under the patronage of the First Lady of Lebanon, Mrs. Zalfa Chamoun.
